![22nd Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon : Washington DC 11-21-09 Today, thousands of people from the D.C. metropolitan area came together on the National Mall for the 22(nd) Annual Help the Homeless 5K Walkathon. This year's Help the Homeless Program beneficiaries are 134 nonprofit organizations that work to prevent and end homelessness in the Washington metropolitan area. The program also seeks to build awareness by educating the community, particularly young people, about the issues facing homeless people.

![Federal City Brass Band : These photos are from performances at the National Museum of American History in Washington DC on Nov 21, 2008 and Jan 17,2009.
The Federal City Brass Band recreates the sound and appearance of a Union Army regimental brass band of the 1860s. The instruments used by The Federal City Brass Band are originals dating to the mid-19th century, and come from the collections of band members. Sources of the music the band plays include original band journals and sheet music of the Civil War era. The uniforms worn by bandsmen are reproductions based on originals and made from the closest comparable wool and cotton fabrics, in some cases using vegetable dyes and original recipes from 19th century mills. ![COG 18th Annual National Corrections Day Wreath Laying Ceremony : Every year, the The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Corrections Chiefs Committee sponsor a Wreath Laying Ceremony and Honor Guard Competition during National Correctional Employees' Week. This ceremony recognizes the outstanding work and dedication of all correctional employees and serves to increase the region's awareness of the important role they play in ensuring the safety of our communities. The wreath laying commemorates those correctional employees who lost their lives in the line of duty. This was the 18th year this event has been held. The event took place on May 2, 2009 at the National Law Enforcement Memorial located at 4th and E Street, NW, Judiciary Square Plaza, Washington DC
