Marimba Linda Xelaju : Marimba Linda Xelajú perform traditional and contemporary Mayan music in the indigenous instrument, the Marimba, at the National Museum of the American Indian on Dec 27, 2008.
Under the leadership of Robert C. Girón, who is joined by members of his family, the group was created to keep Guatamala's culture alive for people of all ages and all cultural backgrounds. www.marimbaxelaju.com
The marimba is a tuned instrument made of hardwood bars in graduated lengths set horizontally in a frame. The larger keys produce a deep mellow sound and the smaller keys produce a sharper, alto sound. To produce the sound, the keys are struck with a mallet. The mallet's vary in size in accordance to the position on the marimba. In this way, the marimba "sings and laughs".

Federal City Brass Band : These photos are from performances at the National Museum of American History in Washington DC on Nov 21, 2008 and Jan 17,2009.
The Federal City Brass Band recreates the sound and appearance of a Union Army regimental brass band of the 1860s. The instruments used by The Federal City Brass Band are originals dating to the mid-19th century, and come from the collections of band members. Sources of the music the band plays include original band journals and sheet music of the Civil War era. The uniforms worn by bandsmen are reproductions based on originals and made from the closest comparable wool and cotton fabrics, in some cases using vegetable dyes and original recipes from 19th century mills.
